What Beauty and Brains Means to Me & How a $500 Award Can Help Launch My Business Idea

Too often, we limit our image, education and success to social standards; long straight hair, straight white teeth, slim in size, designer clothes/shoes, having a Bachelor’s degree from a college/university, having a lot of money, nice cars, a big house, jewelry etc. I believe in order to have Beauty and Brains, one must be able to define, identify and accept him/her, their education and success without using social standards. I define having Beauty and Brains by being rich in mind, body and in spirit.

Being rich in mind, is being able to identify yourself without using your name and social security number, being able to define your purpose, being self-disciplined, responsible and having good decision making skills. Having neither identity, nor a purpose and being indecisive is helpless. In order to find ourselves, we must first search deep within ourselves to find our own purpose, passion and desires. Once we find our own purpose, passion and desires, we must then create a plan to accomplish them and begin at once, using faith, effort and determination.

The most common weakness of all human beings is the habit of leaving their minds open to the negative influences of other people. Leaving your mind open to the negative influences of others; result in having negative tendencies applied to the subconscious mind. Negative tendencies that are applied to the subconscious mind include hatred, jealousy, envy, and selfishness. A rich minded individual would translate positive tendencies to the subconscious mind and transfer it to its physical being. Because having a negative attitude toward others will not bring success. Being rich in mind also means reaching a decision not to work what people think, say or do. He must be able to handle criticism.

Health and fitness go hand and hand when forming a rich body. Providing the body with adequate food, nutrition and exercise, to protect each of the body’s important systems; Circulatory System, Digestive System, Endocrine System, Immune System, Lymphatic System, Muscular System, Nervous System, Reproductive System, Respiratory System, Skeletal System and Urinary System is what I call being rich in body. To have a beautiful body, you do not have to have a six-pack, strong muscular arms, large breast and huge buttocks. Eating healthy food and having daily routine exercises is all that’s need to have a beautiful body. Another way I define beauty is by being able to wake up each morning, look in the mirror and I say “I Love You” without applying make-up/foundation, grooming your hair and dressing in your day clothes. Being able to accept you for who you are.

We often find ourselves, putting on this image of someone else, to attract those that don’t deserve us. We spend hundreds of thousands of dollars keeping up with fashion trends, hair, designer clothes, bags, and shoes etc. to impress those that do not matter. All the time and effort invested to keeping up with the trends could have been invested in finding ourselves. True beauty is developing your own style and being able to identify yourself without luxury items, designer clothes, make-up and money.

Having the ability to create and maintain positive energy and being able to use it to inspire others to become greater than yesterday, is what I call having a rich spirit. For me, the best part of waking up, is knowing that someone is waiting for me to change their life. Doing right by all of god’s creations without thinking about it, is in result of having a rich spirit. Also known as having positive tendencies applied to the subconscious mind and transferred into its physical being.

Many obstacles stand in the path of our journey to success. Our desire and faith allows us to avoid some. Determination, dedication and persistence, along with our desire and faith allow us to get through the rest and reach our destination. Once we reach our destination, the place where we call success, it’s important that we reach back down and inspire another to reach their desired goals, because sharing our story could save a life.

A $500 award could help me launch resource centers for less fortunate individuals in poverty dominated communities. One resource center would be a resume and career center that would prepare youth and adults for their desired career field. The other resource center would be a volunteer non-profit program designed to motivate and inspire youth as well as adults to become successful and responsible adults. The program would work with individuals in the community, helping them get rid of their negative beliefs and working with them to develop their desire and to become self-disciplined.
